There are two main avenues for scholarships through Rotary.  The first can be accessed through the club website -  There's a tab for scholarships on the right hand side of the page.  I clicked it today, but it didn't come up so check it out at your leisure.  These scholarships are $2,500 each and are geared toward high school seniors active in service, in tune with the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self.  It may be limited to WCASD kids.
The other is through the Gundaker Foundation, which is our District's own Foundation.  They are $1k to 9k and are for high achieving kids with some financial need.  I was President of this Foundation a few years back, and the kids that received money were all rock stars. This is for students entering their Junior or Senior year.  There is a pot of money for Grad students too.  Here's the link for this -
New Youth Minister
We are pleased to announce that Nathan Offutt has accepted the position of youth minister at Advent.  Nathan has been a member of Advent Lutheran Church all his life. While being a member of Advent Youth Group, Nathan enjoyed the great opportunities to grow in faith with friends both in the church, on retreats, confirmation, and many other gatherings both local and national. Nathan is excited to lead the Advent Youth Group and hopes to continue the excellent opportunities and great experiences to today's youth. It has been wonderful having between 16 and 20 Jr. and Sr. High Youth attend our Sunday PM youth gatherings.  Pat Polilli has graciously agreed to lead a Sr. High Sunday School at 9 AM the third Sunday of every month as well as a 3rd Sunday evening 6 PM Bible study for Sr. High Youth (1/19 and 2/16)  Furthermore she will be leading and organizing this year's Appalachian Service Project Trip

2015 ELCA Youth Gathering
The 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering in Detroit, a time of worship, study and service, where about 30,000 Lutherans from across the country will gather, will be held July 15-19. 2015.  We sent a large group to this Gathering in 2012 and hope to repeat the experience next year.  For information, please go to  To reserve your spot, a $100 non-refundable deposit needs to be made by June 15 this year.  After June 15, the deposit increases to $150.  We hope to secure transportation before the end of the summer and will have fund raising opportunities that should allow youth to cover most if not all of the remaining cost of the retreat.  This deposit may be made online (see “Donate Now”), or by check.
Konnect with Kids
Is planning regular outings throughout the year for parents, grandparents and family members of children preschool through the 5th grade.  It is a wonderful way to meet other parents and enable your children to get to know other children from Advent before they reach their teen years and begin participating in youth group!  Our Konnect with Kids April 19 outing will be a hike in Ridley Creek state park.  We will meet at 10 AM at Advent (or approximately 10:15 AM at the Mansion in the park if that is more convenient for you) and then head for a hike through the woods of the park, including some time along various creeks and streams, always interesting for the kids.  Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate clothing/shoes and bring a bagged lunch.  On the way home, many participants will be stopping at YOGO for a yogurt treat.  Check out their website for coupons!  August 10-13, Kids Konnect is planning a Wildwood Retreat, making use of the Luther Inn, three blocks from the boardwalk and beach.  More information will follow, but save the date!  You won't be able to beat the price since we obtain lodging for only $15 per person per night and will share our meals together.  Pastor Chris will be participating as well and will lead daily devotions.  We plan lots of time to enjoy God's good creation and a trip to the Cape May County Zoo.  To reserve your spot for the August 10-13 retreat, or to be on the planning team, please e-mail

Harvey Cedars Youth Retreat
"WHOSE GIFT IS IT ANYWAY"  This year's Harvey Cedars Youth Retreat for 6 through 12 graders is being held February 28 through March 2, at the Harvey Cedars Bible Conference Center on Long Beach Island, NJ.  It will once again be a wonderful weekend away for our youth and chaperones offering cool worship, presentations related to discovering our spiritual gifts, small group discussion and plenty of free time to enjoy God's good creation and a wonderful pool, gym, game room, etc.  What does it cost?  That depends on when you pay and register.  Payment is due at registration and can be accomplished via check or by going online to our website.  All you need to bring are personal care items, changes of clothing, a Bible, snack to share, writing instrument and a good attitude for learning and fun.  We will meet at the church as early as possible on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday afternoon.  We will stop for dinner on the way down so youth should bring at least $15 of spending money.  All meals are provided.  Youth will be asked to tithe, give 10% of what they bring, in the offering at the closing service.  The cost depends on when you register.   $130 by 1/19, $140 by 1/26.  After 1/26 through 2/2, the cost will be $150 but only if we have space/chaperones available.
On the Way to Wildwood
By the time you read this, the date for this year's youth retreat to Wildwood should be finalized.  We were hoping to reserve July 27-29.  The retreat is for all youth entering the 6th grade through 12th grade.  In addition to lots of time enjoying God's good creation and the boardwalk/rides, we will have time for daily worship, study and conversation..  If you are interested in attending, especially if you would like to help chaperone, please share dates that would work for you by e-mailing
Our monthly 2nd Sunday, 6 PM youth gathering for Jr. and Sr. High students, with recreation, pizza and study, continues March 9, with Bible study for only Senior High being offered March 16 at 7 PM.  It has been great having our youth regularly bring their friends to these outings.  Nathan Offutt has been doing a great job.   Our youth council meets the second Sunday most months, following 10:30 AM worship, as we plan for the future.
Senior High Sunday School
