"Do not say 'I am only youth.'" - Jeremiah 1:6

Classes for First Holy Communion will be held on Saturday, September 13.  We gather at 9:30, with the class starting promptly at 9:45 AM.  The class will include instruction with Pastor Chris, banner making with Don Gauger, bread making with Jim Nussbaumer, and an introduction to the altar and communion articles by Dorothy Heinz.
All children and youth are invited to bring their back packs to church on Sunday, September 14.  During the children's message, there will be a short service of blessing at which each participant will receive a rugged backpack blessing name tag for their packs.  Additionally, parents will receive a Parent/Child blessing sheet - 10 different business-card-sized Bible verse cards and messages that they can use for their children throughout the year.  They are a great lunch bag stuffer!
ACOLYTE LOCK-IN, 9/19, 7 PM to 9/20 8 AM
Our annual acolyte lock-in is an opportunity for youth to learn and improve their skills as they assist with worship by lighting the candles and distributing/gathering the offering plates.  It is also an evening filled with lots of fun, games and recreation.  This year we plan to have an outdoor fire pit to make s'mores.  Participants are asked to bring snacks to share and a donation for Pizza/Beverages which will be served at 7:30 PM.   If your child is planning to come, please e-mail
Regular monthly youth group gatherings, led by Nathan Offutt, resume Sunday, September 14.  We gather at 6:00 PM with recreation and conclude at 8:30 PM.  Pizza/Beverage will be served at approximately 7:30 PM with "God Talk” to follow. Please bring a monetary offering to defray expenses.

Led by Pat Polilli, resumes September 21, at 6:00 PM and lasts until 8:30 PM.  Please bring a monetary offering for Pizza.
Saturday, September 27, we gather at 6:45 AM at the Elwyn Train Station to go on a mystery trip that includes service and a whole lot of fun!  Bring $20 cash, including some small bills.  We expect to return by 5 PM.
Parents of 2nd year Confirmation students and those starting classes (entering 7th grade) are asked to attend a meeting on Wednesday, September 17 OR September 24 at 7 PM.  The gathering will outline the goals of the class, the schedule and our expectations and we hope to solicit parents to take turns making a meal.  Also, a free-will offering will be received to defray the cost of the program.  (Make checks payable to Advent Lutheran Church.  You will receive credit on your financial statement.)  We hope to meet all together on one Wednesday, so e-mail to let him know which week you can/prefer to attend and he will be in touch with you.
Dorney Park Trip for youth (and younger children if accompanied by parent or chaperone.)  We meet at the church, Friday, October 3, 6 PM!  Details to be announced as we try for a group rate.
You may not fully understand what would be involved, if your boy or girl was introduced to the Scouting world. I would be happy to answer any and all questions / concerns. If you would like to see how a Cub Scout Pack or Boy Scout Troop or a Venturing Group operate, I would be happy to take you to one of the Scouting programs for you to observe and ask questions. If interested, please contact Charlie MYERS, Unit Commissioner with the Chester County Boy Scouts – email or phone 610.701-0599.
As an advance notice, please be advised that there will be an early bird registration for the following retreats.

We sent a large group to this Gathering in 2012 and hope to repeat the experience next year. For information, please go to To reserve your spot, a $100 non-refundable deposit needs to be made by June 15 this year. After June 15, the deposit increases to $150. There are two main avenues for scholarships through Rotary.  The first can be accessed through the club website -  There's a tab for scholarships on the right hand side of the page.  I clicked it today, but it didn't come up so check it out at your leisure.  These scholarships are $2,500 each and are geared toward high school seniors active in service, in tune with the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self.  It may be limited to WCASD kids.
The other is through the Gundaker Foundation, which is our District's own Foundation.  They are $1k to 9k and are for high achieving kids with some financial need.  I was President of this Foundation a few years back, and the kids that received money were all rock stars. This is for students entering their Junior or Senior year.  There is a pot of money for Grad students too.  Here's the link for this -
Konnect with Kids
Is planning regular outings throughout the year for parents, grandparents and family members of children preschool through the 5th grade.  It is a wonderful way to meet other parents and enable your children to get to know other children from Advent before they reach their teen years and begin participating in youth group!
Our monthly 2nd Sunday, 6 PM youth gathering for Jr. and Sr. High students, with recreation, pizza and study.  It has been great having our youth regularly bring their friends to these outings.  Nathan Offutt has been doing a great job.   Our youth council meets the second Sunday most months, following 10:30 AM worship, as we plan for the future.
Senior High Sunday School

Thank you from Advent’s ASP teams!
With your generous support and supplemental funding from the Chester County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, we were able to serve two families in Jackson, KY, making their homes warmer, safer, and drier. We could not have done it without you.
