Christian Education at Advent is for children from 4 years old
through adults of all ages.
We give thanks to our new SCS Superintendent, Sue Kreno, and the devoted teachers who weekly provided lessons, time and talent to the precious students in their classes. Our sincere thanks also goes out to Pastor Chris and Peggy Schmied for their guidance throughout the year. Most importantly, we are thankful for the youth (and their parents) who week after week come to share and grow in the love of Christ.
Starting in September and running until the end of May, classes for children age four through Adult. Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM. Children study a different Bible lesson each week and learn how to apply the Bible's teachings to their every day lives.

“for Heaven’s Sake! Parenting Preschoolers Faithfully” You want your child to have a vibrant faith in Jesus Christ but have you ever wondered if there was something more you could/should do beyond bringing them to Sunday School and church? Learn some ways to nurture faith in your home with Pat Polilli beginning Sunday, September 23, at 9:15 a.m., meeting in room 8. Among the topics we will discuss are the Four Keys for Nurturing Faith. This is a book study which we will divide into three sections, taking a break between the sections. The first section will go for six weeks, the second section for five weeks, and the final section for three weeks. If you would like a copy of the book for your home, please see Pat Polilli. The nursery is available.
Weekly Bible Study
Every Wednesday, at 9:30 AM, a group gathers to study the Old Testament lesson, Psalm, New Testament lesson and Gospel lesson appointed for the following Sunday. Our pastor participates in the discussion and this study helps him in his sermon preparation.
Additionally, Pastor Chris leads a Bible study on the 3rd and 4th Thursday evening of the month at 7 PM. All are welcome to attend, whenever they can, even if they cannot come regularly. We are currently studying the Book of Acts.
Woman's Bible Study
The Woman's Bible Study Group that meets on Sunday mornings continue their review and discussion of Rick Warren's God's Answers to Life's Difficult Questions. All women are invited to attend. Study group meets in Room 7 from 9:15 to 10:15 AM each Sunday beginning again on September 9th.
First Holy Communion
Children are encouraged to receive instruction regarding the Sacrament of Holy Communion by the 5th grade. Many receive Holy Communion as early as the 3rd grade. A Saturday class is held once per year. Class includes, videos and written/oral lessons, in addition to baking bread and making a banner. On October 27, 2013, twelve of our children received their first Holy Communion.
A group of men, from teens to long retired seniors, gathers every month for a buffet breakfast followed by Bible Study. They meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month in the church social hall. A free will offering of the meal is received. Come for fellowship and to reflect on God's word. You can speak your mind or just listen!
Every year, a group of women from Advent join with women from Oxford's Community of Love Church, and travel to The Black Rock Retreat Center for a wonderful weekend away. The weekend is a perfect mix of spiritual renewal, relaxation and just plain fun! The women plan and participate in thematic presentations, crafts, games, music, worship and devotions. A highlight is sharing in deliciously prepared meals together throughout the weekend. (meals that we do not have to prepare!) The retreat takes place from a Fri evening until Sunday afternoon, usually the last weekend of February or first weekend of March. All are welcome!
