Christian Education

Christian Education at Advent is for children from 4 years old
through adults of all ages.
Sunday School
We give thanks to our SCS Superintendent, Janie Wolff, and the devoted teachers who weekly provided lessons, time, and talent, to the precious students in their classes.   Our sincere thanks also goes out to Pastor Chris for his guidance throughout the year.  Most importantly, we are thankful for the youth (and their parents) who week after week come to share and grow in the love of Christ.
Starting in September, and running until the end of May, there are classes for children age four and older, and  also for Adults, Sunday mornings at 9:15. Children study a different Bible lesson each week and learn how to apply the Bible's teachings to their everyday lives. Each week's Bible lesson is based on one of the same readings that are part of the Sunday morning worship services.

For parents who wish to attend an Adult Class, a nursery is also available for infants thru age 3 during Sunday School hours.

Adult Christian Education
Adult Christian Education occurs on Sunday morning meeting in Room 9 from 9:15 to 10:15 AM and covers various Biblical topics.

First Holy Communion
Children are encouraged to receive instruction regarding the Sacrament of Holy Communion by the 5th grade. Many receive Holy Communion as early as the 3rd grade. A Saturday class is held once per year. Class includes videos and written/oral lessons, in addition to baking bread and making a banner.

Vacation Bible School
Every Summer, usually in July, Advent  offers a one week AM program for children age 4 through 5th grade.  The program includes a daily Bible story, craft, recreation, music, science and a snack.  Our curriculum is provided by Cokesbury.
Men's Breakfast
A group of men, from teens to long-retired seniors, gathers every month for a buffet breakfast followed by Bible Study. They meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month in the church Music Room, or at an off-site location. A free-will offering for the meal will be received, or payment made, if at an off-site location. Come for fellowship and to reflect on God's word. You can speak your mind, or just listen!

Women's Retreat
Every year, a group of women from Advent join with women from Oxford's Community of Love Church, and travel to The Black Rock Retreat Center for a wonderful weekend away. The weekend is a perfect mix of spiritual renewal, relaxation, and just plain fun! The women plan and participate in thematic presentations, crafts, games, music, worship and devotions. A highlight is sharing in deliciously-prepared meals together throughout the weekend. The retreat takes place from a Friday evening until Sunday afternoon, usually the last weekend of February or first weekend of March. All women are welcome!
